Public comments collected at the open houses and via on online surveys are being analyzed and will be incorporated into Access Study materials presented to the Sound Transit Board in 2012.

Description:
Sound Transit is studying access to and from eight Sounder commuter rail stations as part of an 18 month Sounder Station Access Study. The information will be used to help plan future Sounder station improvements at Mukilteo Station, Kent Station, Auburn Station, Puyallup Station, Tacoma Dome Station, South Tacoma Station and Lakewood Station.
These improvements could include:
- Expanded parking
- Improvements to bike facilities within ½ mile of stations
- Enhancements to pedestrian access within ¼ mile of stations
- Better transit connections at the station

Study Schedule:
The Sounder Station Access Study invites citizens, commuters, and communities to help shape future access improvements to Sounder stations. Sound Transit is partnering with jurisdictions to help gather data, and interviewing riders and holding open houses to provide updates on the study and ask for public feedback.
The proposed Sounder Station Access Study schedule:
2008
The Sounder Station Access Study is funded as part of ST2 transit expansion package
2010
Sound Transit staff begins Sounder Station Access Study by:
- Surveying riders
- Observing and counting how commuters get to their stations
- Talking to local government and other transit providers
2011
- The public comments about station access at January open houses
- Sound Transit analyzes data and comments in State of the Stations report
- Sound Transit reports back and asks the public to rank access priorities during open houses at Sounder stations
2012
Data, analysis and public input are presented to the Sound Transit Board
2012-2023
The Sound Transit Board authorizes planning and development of projects to improve access at Sounder stations
Implementation:
Sound Transit is implementing a significant package of regional transit projects and services approved by the voters in 2008. One element of the plan is to improve access to Sounder commuter rail stations. The Sounder Station Access Study will help direct these improvements. Once this study is completed, determinations will be made on the best set of investments to increase rider access to Sounder stations and design and construction will begin.
