Kirkland Transit Center

Description

The Kirkland Transit Center project provides a new transit center on 3rd Street between Central Way and Kirkland Avenue. The project transforms the existing twenty-two-year old facility and improves the speed and reliability of bus service. The project includes new waiting areas, passenger shelters, and enhanced pedestrian crossings. A new traffic signal, intersection and traffic circulation improvements smooth traffic flow around the transit center and enhance pedestrian safety for transit customers and residents. Bicycle amenities, landscaping and public art are also elements of the project.

Environmental review was completed May 2008; final design was completed May 2009; construction started October 2009 and was substantially completed in February 2011.
